René Bindels received Order of the Dutch Lion

Today in Beuningen, René Bindels was honoured with the highly prestigious Knight of the Order of the Dutch Lion. for his scientific achievements in the field of renal mineral metabolism. René Bindels is as physiologist interested in the regulation of ion transport processes in kidney and small intestine in health and disease. He has devoted his life's research to understanding the molecular mechanisms controlling the calcium and magnesium balance in the search for new therapies for kidney-related diseases. Furthermore, he has devoted enormous energy to teaching future generations of scientists the importance of physiology in medicine. He is responsible for several physiology courses for medical and health science students. He is head of the Department for Physiology and  an elected member of the Academia Europaea. René Bindels has won numerous prizes acknowledging his services to science and society, including the prestigious Carl W. Gottschalk Distinguished Lecturer award, the Robert Franklin Pitts Lecturer award and the Homer W. Smith award.
