Biomedical Sciences

Master Human Pathobiology/Toxicology

After obtaining my bachelor of Pharmacy at the University of Asmara in Eritrea, I continued my studies by enrolling in the master program of Biomedical Sciences (majoring in Toxicology and Human pathobiology) at Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands. As part of my master studies, I had the opportunity to perform my internship at the Department of Physiology, NCMLS, under the supervision of Francisco J. Arjona (Paco). And I simply found it incredible!  The state-of-the-art facilities along with easily approachable colleagues with their own personal scientific expertises make the department a great place to do an internship. In addition, the department comprises employees from around the world creating a wonderful diverse cultural environment. During my internship in the group Ion Transport, I developed different skills spanning from basic molecular biology such as RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, RT-qPCR, bioinformatics to animal experiments (zebrafish). Apart from the work in the lab, the department organizes social events where you share cultures, ideas and experiences. All in all, these short tastes of a scientist's life further fuelled my enthusiasm to embark on a career in research. Likewise, I am sure students who are enthusiastic to develop laboratory techniques (in vitro or in vivo), broaden their scopes with international researchers and at same time have fun, will find this department a productive part of their career.
